Russia should have learned when the Warsaw Pact existed that the cost of maintaining an empire was greater than any financial rewards that could be extracted from the empire. The Warsaw Pact was not an alliance of like minded countries united by socialist solidarity. It was an empire conquered in war and held together by force. When Gorbachev indicated that Russian soldiers would no longer shoot at demonstrators in Eastern Europe the Communist dictatorships there were quickly overthrown.

 

Europe is learning that it needs to spend its required amount of GDP for defense in order to better aid a nation like Ukraine, and the US is refusing to supply some weapons as this is Europe's problem, although we will assist in our NATO pact. The UK has really stepped up to the plate, The Finns and Swedes stepped up, even though not part of NATO directly. The Baltics have Stepped up. France and Germany are huge disappointments. It is not a surprise that the French won't fight, but it is a real damn disappointment that the German's won't!

 

Fixxy! Russia might as well retreat back across original borders, apologize, return kidnapped citizens, and give Ukraine free gas for 100 years as reparations. The Russian people will suffer for many decades if Russia doesn't. That is really how it is.
